New Year’s Day; a time to reflect on the year gone by and look forward to the new one. It is the one day upon which so many of us make “resolutions” about dieting, quitting smoking, maybe not drinking as much, finding a new job, the list is virtually endless. But, have you stopped and considered adding something fun to your list? Let’s talk about making a trip to Tennessee to take a ride on one of the best things to do in Gatlinburg, Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster.
So Much More to Do in Gatlinburg
Taking in the incredible scenery from the seat of your car doesn’t even begin to do justice to it. Are you ready to go deep into the forests in search of wildlife but want to take it at your own pace? If so, then you need to make taking a ride on the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster one of the first items on your list of New Year’s resolutions.
Why should riding a roller coaster be on your list of things to do in the new year? Because you need to be a daredevil this year, you need to get out there and live a little. As one of the most popular things to do in Gatlinburg, the Mountain Coaster draws thousands of thrill-seekers every year. But, those who come here are no ordinary thrill seekers, and this is no ordinary coaster.
Fun at Your Own Pace
While the Mountain Coaster doesn’t have a height of 456 feet like the Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure or scream down the track at 128 mph (also Kingda Ka), it does let you set the pace from the top all the way to the bottom; you can even stop along the way if you want to (but who wants to stop a coaster ride?).
Could be you want to stop to take a picture of the local critters out in the trees or a shot of the track in front of you as it disappears into the trees as you coast down the side of the Smoky Mountains. You can’t do that at 128 mph! Better yet, you can share your adventure with that someone special in your life or just a good friend in the two-seat cars.
The ride drops a steady 2,500 feet down the mountain using nothing more than the force of gravity. A special lift takes you 780 feet up to the start of the ride. From here the ride is silent as there are no mechanics to this ride, simply gravity. But don’t be fooled, the Mountain Coaster can hit speeds of up to 31 mph if you keep your hands off the brakes.
Do Something Different!
So, this year, why not use at least one of your New Year’s resolutions to take a trip to the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster?! The very best part is that the coaster is open all year round. Why not enjoy a virtually silent run down the mountain this winter, and then come back in the summer to see the Smoky Mountains at their peak beauty? No matter what time of year you choose, we will always be happy to see you!
