Just because Old Man Winter is here and there is a chill in the air, doesn’t mean you can’t still come out and ride the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster. In fact, winter rides on this coaster are considered one of the best things to do in Gatlinburg any time of year. Wait, did we just say that you can ride a roller coaster in the winter? You bet we did! There is nothing in the world that could be more fun than riding the coaster down the side of the mountain with snow swirling all around you.
Winter Is the Best Time to Ride This Mountain Coaster
While riding a roller coaster is definitely fun and ensures everyone a good time, the green trees only have so much to offer. When the snow flies, it piles up changing the scenery sometimes hourly. When it comes to things to do in Gatlinburg in the winter months, nothing beats a ride through the Smoky Mountains on the Mountain Coaster.
The only thing kept clear is the track; the surrounding woods and underbrush are left alone. You never know what critters you might see on one of your many trips down the mountain. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to “fly” through the snow? Well now you can experience it for yourself as you cruise down through the trees!
The best part of the whole ride is the amazing silence as the only thing propelling you along through the tunnels of trees and snow is gravity. These coasters do not use any form of engine to propel them along. The only sound you might hear is your own voice as there is nothing more fun than yodeling your way along through the fresh crisp snow.
Any Time of Day
If you think taking a ride on the Mountain Coaster during the daytime sounds like fun, we’re just getting started. This coaster is one of the best things to do in Gatlinburg at night! Combine all of the adrenaline-pumping fun of going down the Smoky Mountains on a virtually silent ride, and then add the dark of a winter night with the fairy lights on the track and the moonlight reflecting off the snow in the trees – wow, that’s exciting!
Sound like fun? Come sun, rain, or snow, nothing stops those who love the Mountain Coaster coming out to get their adrenaline fix. Best of all, you get to control how fast you cruise along. Take your time enjoy the snow-covered scenery; just be sure to bundle up as it is going to be cold on your way down during the day and even colder if you choose to take in a night ride. Be sure to hang on to your day ticket stub as it’s good for one half-price ride at night.
