Snow Ride! Laugh Your Way Around the Track at Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster

Take a snow ride, take it easy! Pardon the pun, but what could be more fun than that slow ride to the top of the first drop on the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster? Going up the first drop with a chill in the air and snow falling all around you. What, you mean you thought all roller coasters close down for the winter? Well, maybe they do in other parts of the country, but not here.  In fact, many say winter is the best time of year to ride this coaster.

Green is Green

While riding a coaster in the summer is all well and good, once you have been past the same green trees a few times, the scenery kind of looks the same – time for a change! . When you take a ride on the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster during the winter, the scenery can change with every ride depending on how fast the snow is coming down.

Imagine riding more than once in a day just so you can see how the scenery changes as the snow piles up! It can snow so heavily here at times that the view can change hourly, you never know what you are going to see. Snow on the ground makes it much easier to spot the local wildlife as you cruise along. When it comes to fun winter activities, there is nothing better than a roller coaster ride in the snow.

Just as Mother Nature Intended

One of the great things about when it snows here at the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster is that the only thing the staff keeps clear of snow is the track itself. The rest of the area around it is left in pristine condition, allowing the snow to fall and lie just as Mother Nature intended it to be. This creates a truly magical white carpet the covers everything.

At night the snow sparkles like diamonds under pale moonlight, making for a completely different experience. It’s also a good time to catch a glimpse of rabbits and many other critters who come out at night to forage.

Take a Silent Flight

If you have ever wanted to find out what it would be like to “fly” through a snowstorm, now is your chance to do it as you hurtle along the tracks. While many coasters tend to be overly noisy, taking away from the experience, the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster uses nothing but gravity to keep rolling along. The result is a virtually silent ride during the winter as the snow muffles nearly all sounds.

The only thing you are likely to hear is the sound of your breathing and of your screams of joy. Going for a ride on the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster when the snow is falling is one of the best things to do in Gatlinburg.  The coaster is open from 10:00 a.m. to 9: p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, come rain, shine, or snow. Be sure to bundle up for the ride as you can count on it being a little on the cold side as you hurtle around the track!!
